Carol Baum
Recycled Computer Parts Clock
“My clocks are inspired by my passion for recycling/repurposing as well
as a love for creating outside the box. The first Makin’ Time Computer
Art Clock was made 17 years ago and ever since I have been reclaiming
parts and pieces of old, scrap and broken technology and reconfiguring
it, preserving it as functional art rather than landfill. I
thoroughly enjoy mixing and matching components, playing with the
colors, form and original function of the pieces, integrating whimsy
with technology such as the new line of keyboard clocks. As
technology advances, so does the array of materials available for our
clocks.”
Carol Baum has been creating computer art clocks since 1995; the
first one was a going away gift for a retiring chief engineer at a
video production studio in the Maryland/DC area. The rave reviews and
additional commissions prompted a friend, Cynthia Goldner, and Baum,
the originator, to further test the market. Subsequently, MAKIN' TIME
Computer Art Clocks was born. Malinda Fishman joined the Boulder Team
in 2011; she and Baum met in 1996 at Fishman’s Boulder craft gallery,
The Middle Fish, and have been friends and colleagues ever since. Baum
is self-taught, dabbling in mixed media art since childhood. Her
outside-the-box creativity and personal values to help care for the
environment by reducing, reusing and recycling made MAKIN’ TIME a
perfect venture.
