Carrie grew up in the shelter of a small farming community in Iowa. While visiting Colorado as a teenager, she found herself drawn to the natural beauty of the state and made plans to someday live here. After moving to Colorado, she married and started her family. While attending ceramic classes at a local community center, she discovered an affinity for pottery. Studies at local colleges, workshops, and time at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center soon followed.
The forms are occasionally created from conscious images but more frequently from the unconscious mind or a combination of the two. Carrie’s goal is to capture a sense of gracefulness and fluidity in these inanimate forms, intending to provoke a sense of movement, while at the same time alluding to images that are just under the surface of consciousness.
