Jon Powers was born in Claremore, Oklahoma in 1942 and graduated from Northeastern State College in 1964. With his BA degree in Art Education he joined Jefferson County Public Schools in Colorado. After six years with Jefferson County, he received a sabbatical and got a Masters degree from Oklahoma University. Jon returned and continued teaching at Jefferson County Schools until retirement in 1997.

With previous experience in mapping, construction and running heavy equipment, the Colorado landscape was ever present. This enhanced his love for the mountains. How man placed his structures in the natural surroundings has always been a fascination for Jon. Periods of time spent in New Mexico created an additional love for the Southwest.

Jon's accomplishments include pen and ink, original watercolors, watercolored prints, along with black and white reproductions and colored cards. Jon has had the honor of being selected to do an award winning poster for Evergreen, Colorado.
