Communicating with my audience is where I get a lot of joy. To make sure the right message is getting through, while painting I’m always pestering my friends and family: “What do you see? Tell me what you see and how it makes you feel” They’ve gotten used to my interrogations, and like me anyway.
Getting ideas for new paintings are almost an everyday occurrence. Often when I feel touched by something, I try to express it in a sketch. Sometimes I put it in a mermaid environment where life is freer. Sometimes these things that catch my eye are invisible, like the strong pull of a baby’s intense gaze. Some images have a sweet intimacy that is better experienced hidden in a landscape or still life.
