Melissa B Rackliff

Sensory Image

As my work and I evolve one thing remains constant: the process; the way; the journey. By instinctively laying down layers of lines, textures, colors and energy, my work is formed through a meditation or listening of sorts; sometimes pulling imagery forward and sometimes leaving the image faded.

By calling on both physical and spiritual memories, paintings born from a dreamlike recollection of frequencies, color and emotions emerge. Each layer becomes an intrinsic part of the whole, imbuing the piece with the energy of its formation, even if ultimately unseen.

They describe a journey to discover, and express through gesture and motion, the connections between our spiritual and physical existence. The paintings’ creation bring to the surface an energy expressing that we should honor each gesture made; that each moment has some impact on the next, if not just because we move through it. Melissa studied and received her BFA at Ohio University in Athens, OH and currently lives in Bailey, Colorado with her husband, son, and their four cats and two dogs.

Motion is the essence of life. Memories are energy.
Dreams are electricity. Light is frequency.
Color just reflection, experience perception.
(The sight of energy is rough around the edges…)
Inspiration is waiting.
