Peggy Corpeny

Teapot

What Peggy loves most about her drawings is that they make people smile. The bright colors and whimsical characters inspire lightheartedness…green dogs, blue cats, kids in swings, coffee and teacups with personality. Her drawings are inspired by what surrounds her and the individuals and objects of her life for which she is grateful and from which she derives pleasure. She paints because it makes her feel good and allows her to pass that feeling on to others.

All of Peggy’s drawings are done using a combination of watercolor transparent in and magic marker. She applies the inks with a variety of brushes and pens to either Bristol or watercolor paper. Each drawing stars out with a sketch done in India ink. Thin layers of translucent inks and marker are then added in order to build up a rich and vibrant color base. As each layer dries, she adds detail with magic marker and fine point nibs. She occasionally uses stencils or stamps, which she has created and cut out to further enhance the sense of depth in the images. Final details are added with an opaque ink and/or maker. Many images include poems she has written to enhance the image and then she hand decorates each mat.
