Shane Dimmick

Artist Shane Dimmick - Acrylic Wildlife

Born in Wyoming, Shane Dimmick has a deep rooted regard for the natural world that started with frequent trips to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. From an early age, Dimmick expressed this regard for nature and animal life through sketching and studying, which led to a degree in biology and ultimately grew into wildlife art. Hiking and canoeing trips, visits to wildlife centers and her own backyard - now in the mountains of Colorado - provide her with an array of subjects.

Dimmick often treats the animal as landscape to emphasize a particular quality or emotion, while hinting at habitat. She enjoys bringing us eye-to-eye with her subject, often captivating the viewer with the faces of nature.

"I want the viewer to connect with the animal by seeing it - not just to look at it," she says. She works primarily with acrylic, as well as oil and ink.

Her imagination and knowledge, attention to detail and genuine appreciation of her subjects have made her work recognized and collected throughout the country. Her versatility has gained her inclusion in such exhibitions as "Birds in Art" at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, "Arts for the Parks Top 100" with the National Park Academy of the Arts, as well as commissions from The Nature Company and National Wildlife Federation. Dimmick is included in three books and has illustrated one book. She is a member of The Society of Animal Artists and has won its Award of Excellence.

Dimmick is devoted to the preservation of nature and the welfare of its wild inhabitants, and to the many art forms and styles that celebrate it.
